Alaska Pacific Environmental Services – Alaska Waste

BioDiesel

In 2010 Alaska Waste opened the first commercial-scale bio-diesel production facility in Alaska. With the capacity to create 250,000 gallons annually, the facility processes used cooking oil from 240 restaurants and businesses around Alaska.

Curbside Recycling

Alaska Waste offers curbside recycling to 40,000 homes in the Anchorage and Eagle River area, which is collected bi-weekly. Customers are given 96 gallon recycling bins for all of their recyclables, with no sorting by the customer required.

Compost Pilot Program

In 2009 Alaska Waste began a pilot program focusing on reducing the amount of materials entering the landfill. The state-of-the-art- composter has the capacity to process 16 cubic yards of material daily. It diverts 2,880 tons of compostable material from the landfill, producing 4,320 yards of natural fertilizer each year.
